Yiannis Stylianides was born in Cyprus. Upon the completion of his architectural studies in the United States he returned to Cyprus and has worked as a self-employed architect. At the same time he began intensely creating works of art to express his dreams, feeling, thoughts and experiences.

He has an equal passion for sculpting and painting. The whole process of creating a painting or a sculpture takes him out of the daily routine and into a beautiful and positive world that he wants to share with everyone through his art. The whole process begins as a visual concept that he works on mentally until he is ready to execute the piece. He finds very fascinating to explore the use of new techniques and materials in the creative process. One of his main goals is to create art using original methods and unique combinations of materials not ever applied before. One of the methods he created is a groundbreaking process he calls “Constructive Torching”. He creates his own composition of paints and then uses a blow torch to apply the paint on wood. This method creates a fascinating texture and gives the paintings a three-dimensional quality that allows the viewer to see the painting the same way from all angles. Another series is his signature sculpted wood panels depicting plan views of cities influenced from his architectural background. His latest creation is a series of 3D paintings using fiberglass and the constructive torching technique. For the sculptures he uses fiberglass and wood, combined with several types of paints. His main inspiration for the sculptures comes from the human body expressing different feelings and nature. He also has a series of painted wood sculptures inspired by nature. The artist uses reclaimed wood and completely transforms it into beautiful works of art.

His artwork is in many private and public collections in Cyprus, United States of America, United Kingdom, Dubai, Italy, Monaco, France, Qatar, and Greece. A painting of his Cities Series has been featured in Saatchi Gallery in London and another one is in the collection of the CBC. His latest solo exhibition in Seattle USA was called by the prestigious Artnet Worldwide Corporation as a “must see exhibition”.
